Global Health Services Network is proud to announce our Executive Vice President and Partner, Joyce Durham, RN, AIA, is a contributing author to the newly released “Nurses as Leaders in Healthcare Design: A Resource for Nurses and Interprofessional Partners”. In addition to authoring a chapter, Joyce served on the editorial steering committee. This book is the result of a partnership between the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD) and HermanMiller Healthcare. The book serves as a guidebook for nurses and other clinical professionals involved in healthcare design.
As a founding member of NIHD and as a registered nurse and architect, this book is very closely aligned with Joyce Durham’s personal professional path. Throughout her career, she has strongly advocated for clinicians, particularly nurses, to use their unique knowledge base to participate in all aspects of healthcare design such that the resulting space facilitates the delivery of safe, efficient and satisfying care to patients.
“Nurses as Leaders in Healthcare Design: A Resource for Nurses and Interprofessional Partners” is a combined effort of more than 20 contributors, including Ms. Durham’s chapter three, which focuses on nurse-led innovations in health care design. “Chapter three is designed to encourage nurses to lead the development of innovative facilities by first explaining the innovation process works and, then, illustrating via three case studies how nurses have led unique and sustainable innovations in healthcare design.”
